Horst
Schloss Horst, eine der ältesten und wichtigsten Renaissancebauten in Westfalen, stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, steht ganz in der Nähe des Nordsternparks, der uns den Strukturwandel der Ruhrregion landschaftlich reizvoll vor Augen führt. Horst hat den Niedergang der Kohleindustrie überstanden und ist seit Vergabe der Bundesgartenschau 1997 an Gelsenkirchen ein Stadtteil im Aufwind.
Buer
Die erste schriftliche Erwähnung Buers datiert von 1003. Schloss Berge mit Berger See und der großzügigen Parkanlage sind das Herzstück der früheren Gemeinde. Manuel Neuer ist hier aufgewachsen, ebenso Bundesjustizminister Marco Buschmann.
